Simian Mobile Disco and Golden Panda enter into a mature liaison

In years of yore, the pairing of Gold Panda with Simian Mobile Disco’s Jas Shaw might have brought forth blissful bangers, but – in a similar subtle, hypnotic vein to SMD’s gorgeous recent work on Murmurations and Derwin Schlecker’s low-key, bright Good Luck And Do Your Best from 2016 – their collaboration as Selling is luminously minimal. Evolved from a spontaneous meetup, it has an organic, unforced feel, insinuating rather than stating itself with force through the subtly shifting rhythms on “Qprism” and the hints of Harmonia on the warm, chiming “Keeping Txme”. On Reflection can’t make any grand claims to originality, but charms with its clarity and light.
