“Convict Pool”

Calexico followed their 2003 breakout album Feast Of Wire with this EP containing covers of The Minutemen’s “Corona”, which gets a mariachi makeover in the manner of Johnny Cash’s “Ring Of Fire”, and a breathtaking rendition of Love’s “Alone Again Or”, filigreed with Spanish guitars and set off by flamenco handclaps, which makes the 1967 classic seem uncannily like the original template for their own sound.
