In Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam, Burns and Convertino located a collaborator who shared their preoccupation with mood and texture. Beam wrote the seven songs, with Burns providing the harmonies and the two bands joining forces in the studio. The performances are true to the characters of both entities, never more so than on “History Of Lovers”, with its silken melody, loping grooves and burnished brass.
