Operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé became famous for her classical interpretations of the works of verdi, Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti, though she briefly achieved crossover success when she teamed up with Freddie Mercury for 1987’s “Barcelona”. longtime fan Mercury, who called her the best singer on the planet, extended their collaboration into the following year’s album of the same name. intended as a tribute to Caballé’s home city, “Barcelona” later became a theme song of the 1992 Olympic Games.
