Inspiration for Buddy Holly’s hit (1940–2018)
At the insistence of The Crickets’ Jerry Allison, keen to reunite with estranged girlfriend Peggy Sue Gerron, Buddy Holly agreed to change the title of “Cindy lou” in her honour. “Peggy Sue” became a huge international hit in 1957, securing Gerron a place in rock’n’roll lore. “As a threesome, Jerry, Buddy and i spent most of our time together just hanging around at my house, listening to records,” wrote Gerron in her memoir Whatever Happened
To Peggy Sue? She married Allison in 1958.
