UNCUT

RETURN TO GENDER

-

In relation to the letter ‘Mind The Gender Gap’ by Tom Childs [December issue] questioning Uncut’s level of gender inequality, I would like to pitch in with my tuppenceworth. Having spent a lot more than tuppence on music – and in particular Linda Ronstadt’s excellent output since she first appeared on the scene – I, like many other fans, wonder why she has never been deemed worthy of an Ultimate Music Guide.

I know Joni, PJ, and Kate have, but Linda, although not an esteemed songwriter in her own right, has been a fine interpreter of the craft for more decades than you could hurl a conductor’s baton at. This, in turn, leads me on to the new music sampler vs themed CD debate. Why not have a male-themed sampler one month and a female one the next? It would, in some way, help to cure the disparity between male/ female ratios and result in a more united planet through equality. Tom Kinsella, Dublin
