MOLLY BURCH
The Molly Burch Christmas Album
CAPTURED TRACKS 6/10
Austin singer’s festive confection Molly Burch could sing the Brexit withdrawal agreement and a nation would swoon in submission, so a Christmas covers album is hardly a stretch for a singer with such divine delivery, particularly one whose recent album First Flower smouldered with down-home cosy charm. Here she treads the line between sincere and schmaltz with classy versions of “The Coldest Night Of The Year” and “What Do The Lonely Do At Christmas?”, plus a tongue-in-cheek twirl through “Last Christmas” with the comics Kate Berlant and John Early. Does the world need another recording of “Auld Lang Syne”? In Burch’s case, possibly.
