DALLAS ACID
THE SPIRAL ARM ALL SAINTS
8/10
The beginning of a new New Age? Having collaborated with New Age veteran Laraaji on last year’s Arrive Without Leaving, Austin trio Dallas Acid apply ‘The Brain’ – Michael Gerner’s monstrous modular synth setup – to more structured ends. Though still meditative, they’re now more dynamic, especially amid “Zavana”’s compelling forward motion, while “Silk Rain” sounds like Global Communication auditioning for another Blade Runner sequel. The title track, too, finds Linda Beecroft’s mysterious voice muttering through a crescendo of descending keyboards and swathes of hazy synths, like Swans from beneath a luxurious blanket, but “Circuit Jungle” delivers muffled gongs and percussive clicks for incense and candle sessions.
