Elverum and Julie Doiron reunite for a sequal of sorts to their 2008 collaboration,

Lost Wisdom. Part Two is an album of less opaque concern, laying bare Elverum’s state after his divorce from the actress Michelle Williams. “I played this song for you and all you heard were the words discomfort and uncertainty/you asked, how do we get back to how it was/and that’s when I started to know/that I might be in it alone”, he sings on opener “Belief”, an open wound that bookends the record. Even when she’s singing his life’s details, Doiron’s earthen tone lend a universality to Elverum’s love and lost love, pulling him outside himself. Though not as viscerally crushing as

A Crow Looked At Me, Lost Wisdom Pt 2

is as plainly poetic.
