THE GO-BETWEENS
The Friends Of Rachel Worth
CIRCUS, 2000
Twelve years after their split, Forster and Mclennan reunited, with former colleagues replaced by Sleaterkinney. If Mclennan’s sprightly “Going Blind” and Forster’s riff-heavy “German Farmhouse” sounded as that alliance might suggest, “The Clock” offered a muscular revision of early styles, while “Magic In Here” displayed their 1988 swansong’s sensitivity. Paeans to “Surfing Magazines” and Patti Smith (“When She Sang About Angels”) were especially charming. 8/10
