See some of the best ballet at the Bolshoi, Russia

-

Ballet and Russia are synonymous, with Peter the Great (or his wife Catherine the Great depending on the account) who first introduced it to the country.

While it got its start during the Italian renaissance, the Bolshoi Ballet’s roots are incredibly deep as one of the oldest in the world, created by Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia from 1762 until 1796. By the early 1900s, the Bolshoi was one of the world’s foremost companies and the epicentere of Moscow’s culture. Catching a performance feels like a trip back in time while providing a microcosm of wealth in Russia, with oligarchs frequently in attendance.
