Brawl fine but cleared of eye attack

AN UXBRIDGE man has been ordered to pay costs for his involvement in a vicious brawl at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland, which saw a man’s eye gouged out with a plastic cup.

Violence flared at the annual festive funfair on December 21 last year after a row over spilt beer.

Heating engineer Jack Bradstreet, 24, of Tudor Way, Uxbridge, joined in after one of his friends, Bradley Hand, had thrown beer at a nearby group, Hammersmith Magistrates’ Court heard.

He waded into the ruckus, but while others fled at the first sign of the police, Bradstreet had to be dragged off Rawsht Rostam as he punched him repeatedly on the ground.

Bradstreet was initially accused of the eyegouging attack, but was cleared of involvement.

Another assault charge was also dropped when the alleged victim failed to show up to court.

Bradstreet was given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay £50 compensation to Mr Rostam after admitting assault by beating.

Prosecutor Ann Crighton said: “The scene is at Winter Wonderland.

“An officer came across a fight, basically all the people that seemed to be attacking the victim’s group ran off, but Mr Bradstreet had to be pulled off the victims.

“The fight started because somebody threw beer at the victims, he would say accidentally, and then an argument broke out.

“The main perpetrator of this violence was not Mr Bradstreet. However, he was part of it.”

Magistrate Sandra Graham warned Bradstreet to stay out of trouble in the future.

“A conditional discharge means that for the next 12 months if you don’t commit any further offence this will go away,” she said.

“However, should you be found guilty of any offence or commit any offence you will be punished for this offence.

“Also any offence that you commit will be looked at far more seriously.’

Bradstreet was ordered to pay £50 compensation to Mr Rostam, £85 prosecution costs, and a £15 victim surcharge.
