Principal named for new college

Global Academy set to open in 2016

A SOON-to-be built college in Hayes which will prepare young people for careers in media has appointed a principal.

Global Academy will open at the site of old vinyl factory in Hayes in September 2016, and will train 14 to 18 year olds in broadcast and digital media.

Sharon Weir has been appointed by Global media and entertainment group to head up the new technical college.

She has 30 years experience in education and holds degrees from St Andrew’s and Harvard University.

From 2005 to 2015 she was principal and executive director of New West Charter Angeles.

Sharon said: “The Global Academy is an incredibly exciting and innovative project to be a part of, and I’m looking forward to opening the doors in September to welcome our first influx of students.

“Over the course of their time at the Global Academy, I’ll be committed to making sure every student leaves equipped with the skills they need to become the next generation of leaders in the broadcasting and digital media industries.

“The academy will have state of the art facilities including extensive recording and filming studio space, a theatre and a four-storey atrium.”

The Old Vinyl Factory in Hayes is the former home of EMI where landmark broadcast engineering developments were made, including the development of the stereo.
