Eastcote’s festive gift
MBBO REGIONAL ONE
Eastcote 8 PHC Chiswick 3
EASTCOTE kept up their unbeaten run with a convincing 8-3 victory over ninth-placed PHC Chiswick, with a hat-trick from top scorer Kevin Haigh, writes Ryan Marques-Sampaio.
Going into the final game of the firsthalf of the season with a two point lead over rivals Ashford and knowing there is only one promotion place guaranteed, there was no room for a blip in form for the league leaders.
And the home side made no mistake in making sure they go into the festive period on top, with a solid win inspired by the main man Haigh, who remains the league’s third top scorer. There was also a brace for Ian Sadler and goals for Gabriel Emery, Stephen Riddleston and David Cooper.
Eastcote were hoping for their second team to do them a favour when they took on second placed Ashford, however the same convincing 8-3 scoreline was repeated in Ashford’s favour.
Allistair Cochrane, Joe Forster and Kern Sorzano got the goals for the second team, meaning the second-placed side remain hot in pursuit.
Meanwhile, Eastcote Ladies were hoping for a big win over the top-of-the-table Chiswick, following last week’s disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Wallingford Ladies.
Although they put up a fight against the league leaders, they fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat, their sixth of the season, with Claire Devereaux getting the goal for Eastcote.
This result leaves the ladies in eighth place, falling 18 points behind Chiswick in first.
