DRUMS, DANCE AND GLOWSTICKS HELP WALKERS LIMBER UP FOR LADIES CHARITY NIGHT HIKE

-

CLUBBERCISE, carnival, glowsticks and bunny ears came to the streets of North West London last week.

More than 600 walkers took on the annual Ladies in the Night walking challenge, on June 15. The event began in 2019 and raises money for the Michael Sobell Hospice Charity (MSHC).

Walkers of all ages and abilities (including a number of four-legged friends) donning bright orange T-shirts and bunny ears took to the streets of Northwood, Eastcote and Ruislip for either a 5.5 or 10-mile walk, in a bid to raise funds for the hospice’s work. This year’s event will see all money raised supporting the Hospice Day Centre, based on the Mount Vernon Hospital site, which is fully funded by the charity.

The build-up to the event saw live carnival music provided by steelpan soloist Dex Marchan, male carnival dancers, music from Radio Mount Vernon and a lively warm-up hosted by Clubbercise Watford, which got walkers limbered up and ready to go. Commenting on the night, MSHC events manager, Ophelia Chambers-Henry, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to all our walkers, to Allsop, Durn & Dearlove Solicitors, Ruislip, our event sponsor, Hugh Harkness, our fantastic volunteer photographer, Michael Breen and his team at Media Powerhouse for our stage area, all our volunteers who helped out on the route, refreshments, set-up, and those who have been working behind the scenes for months.

“We’re thrilled with the turnout in our 8th year and once everyone has sent in their sponsorship money, we’ll be able to announce what has been raised overall, so please send it in as soon as you can to the charity office – it really will make a huge difference.”
