BARNEY HELPS UNITED KEEP ASTONISHING RECORD
UNITED CARRY ON UNBEATEN RUN WITH WIN OVER MOLESEY
ON-FIRE Hayes & Yeading United remain one of only two clubs in the top eight tiers of the English Football Pyramid to retain their 100% home league win record, in the Isthmian League South Central Division.
They continued their superb run of form with a 2-0 victory over visitors Molesey, a goal in each half – both lobs from Duncan Culley and Lee Barney – ensuring United remain top of the table, two points clear with three games in hand.
It was Barney’s 25th goal of the season.
Manager Paul Hughes, having received the League Manager of the Month award for December, was pleased but philosophical about the display.
“Football is all about results and to continue our winning home league form into the new year is fantastic, especially with a little run of away games ahead,” he said.
“It adds to the positivity and belief in and around the changing room. We saw the fear our recent goalscoring exploits can put into opposition because they came here to defend and did so well.
“What I particularly liked about our performance was our patience to unpick that defence and our professionalism in controlling the game to achieve that.
“As I’ve said before, we have goals in us throughout the field and given time we will break sides down, create chances and hopefully take them. We then need to make sure that we stay focused enough not to make silly mistakes at the back and achieving another clean sheet is another sign of our development as a side.”
United make the trip to Tooting & Mitcham United on Saturday, while on Tuesday January 12 they make a trip to Hendon in the Middlesex Senior Cup.
United’s success has attracted much attention from scouts and that means two players departing for full-time professional football. Attacker Hassan Jalloh has signed for National League Havant & Waterlooville and defender Priestley Farquarson has joined Connah’s Quay Nomads in the Welsh Premier League. Coming in and returning for his second spell at the club is goalkeeper Charlie Burns as competition for Jack Smith.
