WHILE there are fewer burglaries happening across he country,

Uxbridge is experiencing the sharpest increase nationally.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s constituency has experienced a bigger increase in burglaries in the 12 months leading to November 2019, than anywhere else in the country.

In total 692 burglaries were recorded in the area in the 12 month period, up 180 from the 412 burglaries the previous year, according to a study by the Sunday Times .

That means burglary was up 68 per cent in the period. That comes at the same time as national burglary figures fell by around 4 per cent in the 12 months leading to June 2019.

The findings will make embarrassing reading for the Prime Minister, who promised to be “tough on crime”. During the election campaigned, he pledged to replace 20,000 of the 21,732 police officers who have lost their jobs due to cuts since the Tories came to power in 2010.

Shadow policing minister Louise Haigh said: “These new figures are a terrible indictment on the Conservatives’ neglect of the criminal justice system.

“The cuts to policing have led to some forces simply screening out burglaries straight away, with no investigation whatsoever.

“And so it’s little wonder that some areas of the country are targeted so repeatedly.”

The Sunday Times cited an article published MyLondon in July after en elderly couple was violently robbed by marked burglars who broke into their home.

Harbhjan Noorpuri, 86, was punched and kicked as he tried to defend his property, leaving him with four fractured ribs. His wife Pritam, 89, also tried to fight off the attackers but was pushed into a television screen.

She eventually managed to press an alarm which made the men flee. It was the second attempted burglary of their home in two years.

Although the police data use slightly different areas to parliamentary boundaries, the figures for Uxbridge largely tally with Boris Johnson’s Uxbridge and South Ruislip constituency.
