EALING Council has warned shops in Ealing Broadway about a man “pretending to be a council officer”.

A resident contacted MyLondon to explain they had seen the man in what appears to be uniform threatening shoppers with police action.

An Ealing Council spokesperson said they had made both safer communities team and local shops aware of the individual and would be investigating further.

The resident explained: “I have noticed on multiple occasions now, there is a person pretending to be a fake council enforcer outside Ealing Broadway shopping centre.

“He will approach you in full outfit and tell you that if you don’t step aside from him then he will ring the police. He also pretends to film you on a camera.

“He knows my face now and I have actively stood near him to make him walk away, to prevent other members of the public being approached, but I would hope Ealing Council or Ealing police will stop him.”

When contacted by MyLondon, an Ealing Council spokesperson said: “We have alerted our safer communities team to this individual so we can investigate these concerns. We have also made shops in the Ealing Broadway area aware of the situation so they can brief their security officers.

“All enforcement officers working for the council’s contractor wear clear and visible identification and members of the public should always ask for ID from anyone acting in an official capacity.”

Residents are encouraged to contact 101 or 999 in an emergency. They can also ring the safer communities team on 020 8825 5994.
