2022 make up and hair TRENDS

What looks, styles and colours will dominate the beauty scene this year?

-

This one is for trend lovers! Vegan beauty has become a massive trend in itself over recent years, with more and more non-vegans preferring to buy plantbased and cruelty-free beauty products. Well, we’ve already got the vegan ‘trend’ sussed… so what are the ‘in-vogue’ make up and hair looks for this year?

Eyes

Graphic eyeliners are set to become even bigger and bolder this year, following on from the love people had for them in 2021 (you can thank COVID masks for that!). This look is all about expressing yourself, going as simple or dramatic as you want with your liner, letting your creativity run wild. A firm favourite is the negativespace ‘cat-eye’, leaving a gap above your top eye line, drawing your liner just below your eyebrow. Likewise, open-ended, double floating eyeliner that forms a wing on both the top and bottom lash lines, is also popular right now. Try it for yourself if you’re bored of your normal eye make up.

Stickers, tattoo transfers and jewels follow on from graphic eyeliners beautifully, continuing the statementeye look that is gaining followers. It’s all about the notion of play, using nonconventional stickers, tattoo transfers and gems to create decorative pieces of art around your eyes.

Loud, striking eyeshadow colours will continue to gain popularity throughout 2022. Having spent so much time at home or masked-up because of the pandemic, people want to express themselves vividly with eye make up, and that translates to lots of colour. Think bright shadows in yellows, pinks, blues and purples, both above and below the eye, with many taking the trend further to shadow sweeping down towards their cheeks.

Lips

Orange-red lips are set to dominate, continuing on from the bright eye make up trend. Look for joyous coral lipsticks and glosses that scream ‘fun’ every time you’re able to lift your COVID mask.

Glamour, glamour and more glamour

— lips will do all the talking (without actually talking!) with luxurious reds and deep purple hues that make you feel like a celebrity. After not being able to go out for most of 2020 and 2021, now is the time to get glammed up in your fanciest make up and clothes and ooze in confidence, starting with ‘look at me’ lips.

Hair

Big, glossy blown-out hair with bouncy 90s volume will make you feel super glam each time you step outside the house. Look for vegan hair mousses, volume powders and setting sprays in the shops and ask your hairdresser for their bounciest blow-dry.

Undone ‘boy bob’ cuts will sweep hairdressers, springing up from the SS22 catwalks. The key is to ask your hairstylist for a super-short bob, that is cut to your jawline, but keep it just long enough so that you are still able to tuck it behind your ears. To get the most out of the cut, keep it all one length with no shape around your face. Add volume spray and mousse for body and texture.

Warm, gingery tones are set to take the coral lip trend to a whole other level, unapologetically bright and beautiful. You can achieve this look at home with self-dye kits, although professional help might be needed to accomplish the exact colour you want.
