MATCHBOX REV UP AS ROCKERS REUNION PARTY HEADLINERS
Music fans can kick off their new year in style with the 41st annual Rockers Reunion Winter Party.
Held on 27 January 2024 at the Empire in Aldershot, the latest event is headlined by Vintage Rock’s very own Graham Fenton and his band Matchbox.
As well as resident DJs, also featured at the show is Danny Reno who will be performing a Roy Orbison Special with his band. Three featured special guests also appear on the bill – Johnnie Fox And The Hunters, Cliff And The Stereos and East Sussex’s The Redcatz.
The Rockers Reunion has a rich history. First staged in 1983, over the years the event has featured an impressive roster of acts over from the United States, including Gene Vincent’s Blue Caps, Marvin Rainwater,
Jack Scott, Johnny & The Hurricanes and Sun Records legend, Sonny Burgess.
As well as attracting an array of US artists across the decades, Rockers Reunion has also welcomed homegrown rockin’ legends including Joe Brown, Lonnie Donegan, Jet Harris’ Shadows, Terry Dene, Wee Willie Harris and Vince Eager. Twinkle came out of retirement to sing her motorcycle lament Terry, while as recently as 2019, Mike Sarne lit up the stage with Come Outside and his own bikers’ anthem, Just For Kicks. Crazy Cavan & The Rhythm Rockers were so popular that they closed the show every year for more than a decade until Cavan’s sudden passing in 2020.
Co-organiser Ian Wallis said: “We have all had a lot thrown at us in recent times and things do not get any easier, but through all the trials and tribulations of life, Rockers Reunion just rocks on regardless.
“After 20 years in Reading, the previous venue was demolished and so, in January 2023, a new home was found in the centre of Aldershot. The Empire is a wonderfully old-fashioned former theatre with the feel and atmosphere of the 1950s. It’s perfectly situated for car parking and for public transport. This year a specially imported dancefloor will be installed to keep the jivers happy.”
