SOAP STAR’S QUEST TO FIND THE LOST CITY OF ATLANTIS
I’m fairly sure I know where it might be.
EASTENDERS actor ADAM WOODYATT has shocked fans by announcing his resignation from the longrunning BBC soap… in order to track down the lost continent of Atlantis! Woodyatt, who has played feckless cafe owner Ian Beale on the show since 1985, broke the startling and confusing news at a press conference in Salford this morning.
The 48-year-old star told reporters: “Plato was the first to speak of an ancient sunken island located somewhere in the hidden depths of the Atlantic Ocean. Ever since I was a boy I have dreamed of uncovering, raising and subsequently governing this mythical continent.”

“In many ways, my 27 years on East
Enders have been a mere stepping stone towards the realisation of my true life goal - the historic discovery of Atlantis,” he added.
The long-time telly fave went on to reveal that he will be setting sail on his perilous sub-aqua mission as soon as he has raised the money to buy a submarine, some sonic detection equipment and a gigantic underwater drill.

“I’ve set up a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter,” the five-time British Soap Award winner told journalists. “If you go there and pledge just £10 towards my hazardous voyage, you will be rewarded with a small plot of land on Atlantis when I eventually summon it from the ocean’s depths.”
“Those who pledge £50 or more will receive two plots of land and a seat in the Atlantean parliament, when I get round to establishing it,” he added.

However, BBC insiders last night revealed that Woodyatt may have competition, as fellow EastEnders star TOM
WATT, who played hapless Lofty Holloway in the soap, is presently on exactly the same quest. Watt, 61, is reported to have left the show in 1988 in order to locate, raise and rule the quasi-mythical sub-aquatic realm.
“Tom has spent the last 29 years driving round in a submarine looking for Atlantis,” said his agent Spiro Theacropolis. “Apart from coming back to do the odd panto- mime and episode of Fighting Talk, it’s a full time job for him.”
“Adam’s announcement has given him extra determination to discover the lost city. Lofty looks on himself as the true King of Atlantis, and he won’t want Ian Beale being a pretender to his watery throne,” he added.

And Woodyatt is aware that he has set himself a difficult, if not impossible, task. “I know people have been looking for Atlantis for thousands of years, so it’s safe to say it probably won’t be that easy to find,” he told Variety magazine.
“But if I haven’t found it in a couple of years, I’ll just sail over to South America and have a poke around to see if I can unearth the lost city of El Dorado instead.”
