Probe into police contact with killed mum
AN investigation has been launched into the level of contact a young mother had with police before she was murdered by her ex-boyfriend.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating the contact North Wales Police had with Emma Baum, 22, before her death at the hands of David Nicholas Davies.
It is believed Ms Baum contacted the police on three occasions.
A call was made to police by neigh- bours of Ms Baum at 4am on July 18 and officers were dispatched to her home in Llwyndu Road, Penygroes, Gwynedd.
When the officers visited the house they reported it was quiet and in darkness, even though the mum was lying badly injured and covered in blood by her back door.
Her former partner Davies, 25, returned to her house after 10am and pretended he had “found” her badly injured in the back garden. Their child Steffan, just two years old, had been alone in the house for some six hours.
An IPCC spokesman said: “We are independently investigating North Wales Police’s contact with Emma Baum.
“The investigation is considering the police response to a call from a member of the public on July 18.
“We are also examining contact police had concerning Emma Baum on three previous occasions between April this year and her murder.”
During the murder trial at Mold Crown Court the court heard Ms Baum had confided in friends that she knew Davies was going to kill her.
Violent and controlling Davies, of Clynnog near Caernarfon, had attacked her in the past. The court heard Ms Baum had complained to police about his behaviour but nothing came of it.
On Thursday, Davies was sentenced to life in prison for murdering her and ordered to serve at least 22 years.
