Grape vine
Now the evenings are dark and cold, Jane Clare finds the perfect wines to go with your favourite takeaways FISH AND CHIPS
FLEUR de d’Artagnan Blanc La Reserve, Saint Mont (£8.49, www.rudewines.co.uk) is a juicy number to wake up your tastebuds on a Friday night.
This is a blend of local grape varieties which refresh your spirits. It has unashamed fruit aromas of grapefruit; citrus flavours are clean and fresh to counteract the batter on the fish.
Arestel Cava Brut, NV (£4.49, Lidl) is as cheap as chips and tasty with them too. This good-value fizz has aromas of butterscotch, pear and tropical fruit. It turns a chippy tea into a treat.
A CHICKEN MADRAS
WOULD a Zin match the zing of a chicken madras? Yes!
There’s a riot of fruity flavours in Meadowhawk Californian Zinfandel (£7.99, Aldi) that complements this spicy curry brilliantly, together with botanical hints of dandelion and burdock and even liquorice. It worked with the madras like a good chutney.
SINGAPORE NOODLES
RIESLING is amazing with Chinese spice. There’s some great-value ones around – or as an extra treat Australian Robert Oatley Signature Riesling 2014 (£13.95, www.wine direct.co.uk) hits the spot with its clean fresh acidity and lemon and lime notes which tumbled around brightly against my noodles.
Manon AOP Côtes de Provence, 2015 (£9, Tesco) pink was also fab, with elegant red fruits and a gentle acidity.
A BEEF KEBAB
THE Society’s Barbera D’Asti Superiore 2014 (£6.95 www. thewinesociety.com) is spicy and smoky on the nose and packed with flavour.
