PENALLTA, who lost to Bedlinog in last year’s National Plate final, could go one step further this time around after beating One East title rivals Nelson 20-16 in the quarter finals.

Luke Crane and a penalty try set Penallta on their way with Matthew Brewer adding 10 points with his boot. Danny Ellis kept Nelson in the game with three penalties, as well as converting Liam Thomas’ try, but they fell just short at the end.

One North leaders Nant Conwy are still on course to claim a league and cup double after a 21-5 win over St Peter’s. Delwyn Jones booted three penalties and a conversion with Tom Oliver and Jack Moriarty both bagging tries. Luke Thomas got the St Peter’s consolatio­n try.

But fellow One North outfit Pwllheli won’t be joining them as they lost 34-26 to Abercarn. Rhys Morgan, twice, Gregg Baker, Aled Brown and Colin Mannion all crashed over for Abercarn with Jamie Baker on hand to kick nine points.

Pwllheli put up a strong fight as Ifan Roberts, a penalty try, John Pew and Berwyn Jones were all on the scoreboard, along with Osian Jones who kicked three conversion­s.

Ystalyfera managed to see off the strong challenge of Rumney with a 30-20 victory. Marcus Davies, Steffan Jones, Nathan Cornelius and Steven Bayliss all went over for Ystalyfera with Gareth Jones and Steven Castle both kicking a penalty and a conversion each.

Sol Matthew and Lee Bendon were among the try scorers as Rumney fought back with Danny Clarke kicking seven points. But Ystalyfera held on for victory.

Meanwhile, Joel Foster was in fine form as he helped Amman United knock reigning National Bowl champions Burry Port out of the competitio­n with a 13-3 victory.

Foster booted a conversion after Tom Davies had crossed the whitewash before adding a further two penalties. Ben Williams could only reply with a penalty for Burry Port as they bowed out to their Three West B title rivals.

Caerphilly will join Amman United in the last four after running in five tries against Taffs Well in a comfortabl­e 41-14 victory. Matthew Hurley was the Caerphilly star as he bagged a brace, as well as kicking 11 points, with Will Oliver, Chris Thomas, Matthew Nuthall and Gareth Dare adding further tries.

Lloyd James and Rhys Lott both crashed over in response for Taffs Well, with the latter also booting two conversion­s, but they couldn’t find a way back in the game.

Cilfynydd also enjoyed a big win as they beat Swansea Uplands 32-5. Garan Pearce was at the double with Aaron Atkin and Sion Griffiths also going over. Delmy King added gloss to the scoreline with two penalties and three conversion­s. Gareth Andrews claimed a consolatio­n try for Uplands.

Cardigan claimed the final spot in the semi-finals after beating Milford Haven 16-6. Dafydd Watkins and John Lumb both went over for Cardigan with Llyr Jones kicking two penalties. Craig Barnett also struck two penalties but Milford Haven couldn’t find enough to mount a comeback.

Elsewhere, Jacob Lloyd bagged four tries as Treorchy extended their lead at the top of One East Central to 13 points with a 40-26 win at St Josephs. Cory Dunn added a further two tries with Jordan Lloyd booting five conversion­s.
