LLANDUDNO who have dominated the North Wales League for the past decade were made to battle all the way to the wire by Connahs Quay yesterday.

Put into bat Connahs Quay made a disastrous start and appeared to be in dire trouble at 89-9 but then Darren Leach got to the crease and hit a fine unbeaten 50 to give some respectabi­lity to the score.

Teenager Mattie Jones,a hugelytale­nted spinner took four wickets.

In reply the Seasiders did not find the going easy and they lost eight wickets on their way to victory.

Robin Smith contribute­d 44 and Rhydian Morgan was unbeaten on 44 with Neil Douglas making an undefeated 23 on his first-team debut.

Llandudo therefore got home by two wickets.

Menai Bridge,runners-up last summer showed that they mean business again this season as they overcame Gresford by six wickets.

Gresford won the toss,decided to bat but were dismissed for just 140 with Gareth Bell topscoring with 35 and Daniel Williams weighing in with 31.

Gethin long was the pick of the bowlers taking five for 45 while Arwel Thomas picked up three for 26.

Menai Bridge then reached 141 for 4 helped by a 49 by Matt Bixby who hit eight fours.

A superb batting display gave Brymbo an eight-wicket win over St Asaph.

St Asaph were all out for 166 and Brymbo reached 168 for the loss of only two wickets. James Claybrook was the batting star hitting 13 fours in an unbeaten 87.

Bangor beat Denbigh in the Premier Division by six wickets thanks largely to 59 by Francois Mostert and 48 by Nadeem Rehman.
