IT was all eyes to the skies on day one of the Wales Airshow, which saw thousands of people flocking to Swansea Bay. Fifteen aerial displays wowed the crowds with daredevil stunts, aerial acrobatics and nail-biting manoeuvres as the sun shone down on the city’s seafront.

The event opened at 10am with ground displays and family games, with the aerial action getting under way at 1pm.

It was up to Team Raven to get things started. They were followed in quick succession by the Tutor T1 and instant fan favourite the Typhoon 45, whose deafening roars could be heard and felt across the city.

On the hour mark, the coastguard rescue team showed off their skills on the water as well the air, with Mumbles RNLI joining in with their lifeboat.

Following the halfway point it was over to the speedier planes, with high-octane displays from the Strike Strikemaster and the Vampire Blue planes leaving the crowd on the edge of their deckchairs, and other acts including the Mig 15, the Pitts Special and the Autogyro also took to the skies.

But it was the headliners who onceo again stole the show, with th the Red Arrows leaving their iconic red,re white and blue smoke trails across the Sw Swansea sky. And after a rousing display from the Battle of Britain planes the Hurricane a and the Spitfire, the first day reached a crescendocre with an encore performance from the Red 10 Squirrel. And that wasw only day one. There’s another full day of action coming today, including a return from headlining favourites the Red Arrows.
