- DAVID OWENS Reporter david.owens@walesonline.co.uk

AYOUTH football team is honouring a very special moment in Welsh football history. Mountain Ash Juniors Football club have ordered training shirts in their black and amber colours, but with an extra twist, because adorned within the shirt design will be the image of the now famous Hal Robson-Kanu goal against Belgium in the quarter-final of Euro 2016 in Lille.

The West Brom striker’s sumptuous turn in the penalty area against the team who were many pundits’ favourites to win the Euros, sending three defenders the wrong way, was one of the goals of the tournament and arguably the most memorable in Welsh football history.

“The designs are made by UK manufacturers Kit Sportswear,” said Mountain Ash Juniors manager Tony Rivers. “I spoke with our coaches Ian and Marc and we thought of the idea for the boys, but adults within the club have also expressed interest, so we should have a decent order going in.

“Regional manager for Kit, Michael Butts, is a well-known member of the Mountain Ash community, thanks to a fine rugby career, and he’s provided lots of kit for football and rugby in the Valleys.

“I was fortunate enough to be in Lille to celebrate arguably the best night and finest goal for Wales in a generation or two. It was an incredible achievement that deserves to be honoured, with the first anniversary approaching. We’ll get one framed to remind of us of that beautiful evening in Lille.

Mountain Ash under-12s and under14s are part of the Aberdare Rhondda Junior Football League, with pre-season starting back soon. “They’re based out of Mountain Ash RFC,” said Tony.y “We’re lookinging forward to the new season. Our under12s have their eir first season on the he big pitches at junior nior level so prepaparations aree under way y after enjoying our close season. .

“We wish to thank our sponsorsrs Mountain Ash RFC, C, Glebern Sports, Hammonds, ammonds, Geraint Watters, Nathaniel Dunning, Aaron Bernard ard and Delicious take-away ake-away for their continued and welcome e support.”
