BOTTOM side Llandysul are finally up and running in South Wales Cricket Associatio­n Division One after they recorded a five-wicket victory at third-from-bottom Briton Ferry Steel.

After losing the toss hosts Briton Ferry were inserted and, helped by a half century from Luke O’Connor (60), reached 240-8 off their 50 overs.

But, despite being 83-3 at the halfway point of their reply, Llandysul would go on to secure their first victory of the season thanks largely to an unbeaten 71 from Rhydian Harris.

In the top-of-the-table clash in Division Two, chasing side Maesteg Celtic earned a winning home draw at home against leaders Morriston.

Nick Poole top scored with 58 for hosts Celtic who reached 227-4 batting first before Morriston ended on 150-6 in reply, Tom Finn their top scorer with 57 while Steve Maddox chipped in with a valuable 42 not out.

Maesteg, in third, were fourwicket winners at Skewen and closed the gap on the top two as a result.

Callum Walters bagged 3-33 as Skewen posted 235-8 off 50 overs with opener Dean Kriescher (95) falling just short of his ton.

Walters then top scored with 48 as the visitors won with 1.2 overs to spare. A TENSE finale between first and second saw Menai Bridge claim a narrow two-run victory over Bangor, overtaking their opponents to head top of the North Wales Premier Division.

Menai Bridge, whose tied game against Connah’s Quay last week also went down to the final ball, were reduced to 93-7 after being put in by the hosts. A late burst from Robbie Jones (31) and Gethin Long (24) enabled the Bridge to scrape to 137 all-out.

Bangor appeared to be cruising in response, before rapidly slipping from 106-3 to 119-8. Nadeem Rehman looked to be steering the hosts home, but fell for 41 with Bangor still needing five to win and little more than an over remaining.

After adding just two more to the total, Gareth Edwards was caught off the final ball to give Menai Bridge a vital away win.

Elsewhere, Llandudno stay third after a convincing sevenwicke­t victory over Llanrwst gave them their fifth win on the bounce. Relegation threatened Llanrwst were bowled out for just 53, with Ethan Hill taking 4-14.

Nathaniel Scott’s 118 not-out helped St Asaph to a resounding win over Mochdre by 78 runs, while Brymbo beat Chirk by six wickets.
