Police trying to trace pedestrians after fatal A465 crash

-

POLICE investigating a fatal car crash are trying to trace a group of pedestrians who spoke to the driver shortly before the collision.

Forty-two-year-old Lee Davies was killed in the early hours of August 26 when his silver Renault Clio left the main A465 road near Resolven, and crashed.

Officers are trying to piece together the events that led up to the crash, and now believe he was in Neath town centre on the night in question.

They are keen to trace a group of men who spoke to the Resolven man after his car stopped on The Parade. Officers have released CCTV images from the area, and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Police say the group could have important information about Mr Davies, and the way the car was being driven just 30 minutes before the fatal crash.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: “Police are investigating a road traffic collision that occurred in the Resolven area during the early hours of August 26.

“It is believed that the same vehicle was involved in a separate incident in Neath town centre earlier that night.

“Officers would like to speak to a group of males seen speaking to the driver of a silver Renault Clio on The Parade at approximately 1.30am.

“If you have any information, please contact police.”

Mr Davies died at the scene after his Clio crashed at the Resolven roundabout of the A465 just before 2am.

A 57-year-old passenger in the car was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed for some five hours following the smash.

Mr Davies’ wife, Rhian, described her partner as a “wonderful husband” whose loss had devastated the lives of family and friends.

She said: “The best tribute I can give Lee was that he was such a huge local character who just knew everybody and was always up for a laugh.

“He loved his dog, fishing and also enjoyed watching any sport that involved a ball. He was a massive Manchester United fan.

“He was such a wonderful husband to me and he was also a son, brother and uncle and had a massive circle of friends.

“It’s fair to say we are all beyond heartbroken with his tragic death and losing Lee has devastated all our lives.”
