Nathan rolls out portrait of Jesus

-

SWAPPING baby Jesus for a sausage roll on their advent calendars landed Greggs in a bit of hot water last week.

The bakery firm has apologised for the stunt, which was meant in good spirits – but one Welsh artist has seen the situation as an opportunity to be creative.

Nathan Wyburn, who is known for his unique paintings and his appearance on Britain’s Got Talent in 2011, took to the canvas to make sure Jesus did, in fact, make an appearance.

Only he’s painted him using a Greggs sausage roll instead of brush and ketchup in lieu of paint.

The 28-year-old posted his video on Facebook, saying “Lord Jesus spelled backwards is ‘Susejd Rol’ after all”.

Nathan, who’s from Ebbw Vale in Blaenau Gwent, said: “I just couldn’t help myself – especially when I found out that Lord Jesus backwards roll.

“It’s just great humour on behalf of Greggs and I think it’s genius marketing.

“It’s a shame everyone is so quick to get offended in this day and age – just have a little humour.

“I try to convey that in a lot of my works and this certainly was an interesting one to make.”

Nathan is known for his unusual artwork, and painted a picture of Michael McIntyre using Marmite live on the Britain’s Got Talent stage in 2011.

More recently, he appeared on This Morning with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, with a picture of the hosting duo created using hundreds of lipstick kisses.

Nathan added: “I’ve never painted using a sausage roll instead of a paint brush before, it was quite fun. And, of course, I had to eat it afterwards.” sounds like sausage
