JD WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE

-

THE New Saints are back on top of the Welsh Premier League after a hard-earned 1-0 victory at Llandudno.

But the students of Cardiff Metropolitan University who have reached the final of the MG Nathaniel Car Sales Cup for the first time will return to the summit if they overcome Cefn Druids at Cyncoed this afternoon.

Greg Draper scored the only goal of the game at Llandudno after half an hour.

Bangor City stayed in touch with the pacemakers when they triumphed 2-0 at Connahs Quay Nomads who had started the match in second place.

The Nomads played three quarts of the game with only 10 men after the dismissal of George Horan and the Citizens also finished the game a man short after Laurence Wilson was sent off for two bookings.

Dean Rittenburg and Steven Hewitt scored within three first half minutes of one another to set up the Bangor success.

Bala Town halted Aberystwyth’s recent revival as they won 2-1 at Park Avenue.

After a goalless first half Mike Hayes netted twice for the Lakesiders after the break before Jonny Spittle pulled one back for the Seasiders six minutes from time.

Prestatyn heaped more woe on struggling bottom club Carmarthen Town who are now eight points adrift at the foot of the table.

The Seasiders swept to a 3-0 victory over the Old Gold who played for an hour with only 10 men after the sending-off of Jordan Knott for a bad challenge on Zyaac Edwards.

Ben Maher fired Prestatyn into the lead early on when he beat keeper Lee Idzi and Alec Williams made it 2-0 after 71 minutes with a powerful 22-yard shot.

Jack Higgins made the game completely safe with a strike in the closing minutes,

Barry Town’s recent resurgence ground to a halt when they crashed 3-0 at improving Newtown.

But the result of this game hung in the balance until Luke Boundford swooped for a last-gasp brace of goals.

Earlier, Tom Goodwin had given Newtown the lead.
