IT has been an impressive first year of operations in Wales for respected groundwork and civil engineering merchant Scott Parnell.

The UK company, which was set up in 2012 by Dave Scott and Steve Parnell, has enjoyed a 30% growth year on year in that time – and the new division, Scott Parnell Wales, is contributing to that.

“We highlighted a gap in the Welsh market, where large national providers were closing branches in the Welsh valleys,” said Wales director Leanne Horrigan. “We saw this as an excellent opportunity for our next branch and Scott Parnell Wales was formed.”

Ms Horrigan continued: “We located at Hirwaun Industrial Estate in October 2016. It seemed to offer all we needed to support our move to and growth within Wales. With an opportunity to take on a skilled workforce, we saw the estate as the ideal location for us as it’s on an established business park with excellent transport links in all directions, and within 30 miles of both Swansea and Cardiff.

“A year on, we have experienced a growing client base, with month-onmonth growth. Now closing our first 12 months of trading, the Welsh arm to our business has a turnover close to £4m and growing. Our growth strategy will continue in Wales during 2018, with further employment and logistic commitments.”

New jobs are expected to be created through a logistics expansion, with a fourth lorry on order for the new year, committing to a next-day service to construction, civils, rail, utility and hard-landscaping markets. Mid, south and west Wales are all covered from the Hirwaun base, but the fleet also serves the likes of Gloucester, Hereford, Bristol and Bath.

“Our experienced sales team is on hand to deal with all inquiries, offering a consistent customer service,” said Miss Horrigan. Scott Parnell Storm Water Management (SPSWM) SPSWM is a new division set up by the business. Water management is now a key part of any building project, no matter the size or sector, and fits perfectly with the company’s customer offering.

With a fully-certified and experienced installation team, accredited to industry standard, it can supply and install welded attenuation tanks.

SPSWM can also offer competitive options for all kind of developments. One of the 1,000 companies to inspire Britain Scott Parnell is proud to have been selected by the London Stock Exchange Inspire 1000 award 2017, an annual celebration of some of the fastest-growing and most dynamic small and medium-sized enterprises in the UK.

“We have become a fast-growing independent in our industry, with a determination to continue making waves in a sector of large players, by ensuring customer service and people are the focus of our business,” said Ms Horrigan. The future “Looking ahead for the next 12 months will not be easy for any business in the current economic climate,” said Miss Horrigan.

“However uncertainty is not always a bad thing. We just need to continue our focus on new projects and look for opportunity amid the uncertainty. Our focus is expansion and while we look at plans for a fourth branch, it will be based around having a strong team of people behind it.”
