CARLOS CARVALHAL VIEW...

-

CARLOS Carvalhal admitted the injury sustained by Leroy Fer against Leicester City looked ‘”serious”, but praised Tom Carroll for his impact at the King Power Stadium.

Fer was carried off on a stretcher 35 minutes into the Swans’ 1-1 draw with Leicester and replaced by the previously out-of-form Carroll.

But the former Spurs midfielder broke up the Foxes play and helped the Swans achieve a point that satisfied Carvalhal.

On the extent of Fer’s injury - a suspected Achilles problem - Carvalhal was cautious.

“I can do some speculation, I don’t know but at first view it looks serious,” he said. “We think it’s his Achilles and not something light but let’s see tomorrow or the next 48 hours, we’ll analyse him.

“But I must say Carroll did very well. He improved the team, he gave energy and played very good on the ball, improved the dynamic. Part of what we achieved in the second half was with the participation of Carroll.

“Unlucky for Fer, but a lucky situation for Carroll, who came into the side and performed very well.”

The Swans stretch their unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions and they have now lost just once in nine games under Carvalhal.

The new boss said it was “easy” to explain the Swans’ stark improvement in the second half against Leicester after a poor first 45 minutes.

“The history of Swansea in Leicester is very very poor, we don’t win here since 1950 I think,” added Carvalhal.

“We’ve lost the last seven games here so we broke that wall.

“We achieved a point against one of the strongest teams in the competition. They are very strong at home.

“We didn’t perform to our level in the first half. Easy to explain - we expect and prepared the team for different players.

“So when Leicester appeared with different players in attack with different skills, it was difficult for us to solve those problems. But we started to react in the last 10 minutes of the first half. Then on the break in the second half we had the chance to correct things.”
