How they rated
LUKASZ FABIANSKI
This could have been even worse without the Poland international, given little chance by the manner of some of the defending ahead of him.
KYLE NAUGHTON
Struggled all afternoon with the movement and pace of Izquierdo and that was only exacerbated when Narsingh was brought on ahead of him. Simply stopped tracking the Brighton man for the Seagulls second. Given little protection it must be said.
MIKE VAN DER HOORN
Gave away the penalty with a clumsy challenge, thought he had made amends when his shot flicked goalwards off Duffy. Was short of recent standards and replaced at the break.
FEDERICO FERNANDEZ (CAPT)
A day to forget for the captain, he twice mis-read straightforward balls over the top, with the second occasion leaving Murray in to win the penalty, Brighton’s movement pulled him out of position with alarming regularity in a ruthlessly exposed rearguard.
ALFIE MAWSON
One of the few to impress for most of the afternoon, shaking off any concerns over that knee injury, but fell into the general malaise during the final half-hour as he missed his clearance for the Knockaert goal and was lucky to get away with giving the ball away in dangerous positions.
MARTIN OLSSON
A few forays down the left and missed a glaring chance to bring the Swans level on the stroke of half-time, it proved a key moment in the game and was among those left exposed as Swansea chased the game.
KI SUNG-YUENG
Had an almost impossible job by the end as he was the only cover for an over-worked and stretched defence as Swansea were splintered again and again with bodies up the field.
TOM CARROLL
One of Swansea’s better performers as he knitted together attacks with some incisive passing, but was sacrificed as Carvalhal sent on attacking reinforcements.
SAM CLUCAS
Peripheral, has been much-improved of late but was hardly involved in any meaningful action here. A flat performance.
NATHAN DYER
Hauled off after 35 minutes and was not happy about it. In his defence, he was not the only Swan to struggle but it would also be true to say his only real contribution was to lose the ball and end a briefly promising Swansea counter.
