EARLY pace setters Connah’s Quay Nomads made it three wins out of three in the JD Welsh Premier League with a 2-1 win over Aberystwyth Town at the Deeside Stadium.

Rio Ahmadi thought he’d given visitors Aberystwyth the lead inside 30 seconds but it was ruled out for offside.

But after sustained pressure it was Andy Morrison’s Nomads who took the lead on 37 minutes through a Michael Bakare freekick.

And they doubled their lead right on half time with Mike Wilde scoring.

Wes Baynes did eventually get Aberystwyth on the scoresheet on 89 minutes but it came too late to spark a revival.

Reigning champions The New Saints bounced back from their defeat at Connah’s Quay last weekend with a crushing 6-0 win over Carmarthen Town at Park Hall.

Greg Draper netted twice with Danny Redmond, Jamie Mullan, Dean Ebbe and Adrian Cieslewicz also on target to send TNS second in the table on six points.

Cardiff Metropolitan University will go back into second and level on points with Connah’s Quay today providing they beat newly-promoted Caernarfon Town at Cyncoed.

Elsewhere a 94th minute leveller from Kayne McLaggon snatched a point for Barry Town United in their game at the other promoted side in Llanelli Town which ended 1-1.

The Reds had lead from the second minute at Stebonheath Park through James Loveridge.

There was also a dramatic finish at Bala who beat Cefn Druids 2-1 thanks to Henry Jones’ winner deep into added time.

Earlier Steve Tames’ opener for Bala has been cancelled out by Naim Arsan’s leveller for the Ancients.

The game between Llandudno and Newtown finished goalless.
