Liq­uid squirted from car prompts acid alert

PO­LICE were called to a street in Cardiff af­ter re­ports that a mys­te­ri­ous liq­uid was be­ing squirted from a car.

A black BMW was spot­ted squirt­ing the liq­uid at peo­ple near The Plough on Merthyr Road, Whitchurch, at around 8pm on Fri­day.

There were ru­mours on me­dia that the liq­uid was acid.

But South Wales po­lice con­firmed the liq­uid was not acid but “some type of sauce”. so­cial

One wit­ness said: “There was a lot of con­fu­sion.

“When I asked a passer-by, he said he thought it was an acid at­tack, a car drove past and sprayed the peo­ple out­side the Plough with a ‘sub­stance’.”

An em­ployee at the Plough, who asked to re­main anony­mous, said: “There was a car pass­ing by that was squirt­ing some sort of browny-red liq­uid out of the win­dow at cus­tomers. We think it might have been chili oil but we’re not en­tirely sure.

“They sent the ser­vices out just in case be­cause they didn’t know what the liq­uid was.”

The pub worker said the emer­gency ser­vices weren’t there for long and left af­ter about “five min­utes”.

They added: “There was one fire crew, two am­bu­lances and un­marked po­lice were cir­cling the area.”

South Wales Po­lice are still in­ves­ti­gat­ing the in­ci­dent and have asked any­one with in­for­ma­tion to con­tact them.

A spokes­woman said: “We can con­firm this was not an acid at­tack but some type of sauce. We were called at 8.20pm on Fri­day night to Merthyr Road af­ter liq­uid had been squirted at peo­ple from a black BMW.

“Our in­ves­ti­ga­tion is on­go­ing and any­one with in­for­ma­tion should con­tact 101 quot­ing oc­cur­rence num­ber 1800332237.”
