US pulls refugee funds
THE US is ending funding for the UN agency that helps Palestinian refugees, a week after it slashed bilateral aid for projects in the West Bank and Gaza.
The US supplies nearly 30% of the UN Relief and Works Agency budget but had demanded reforms.
The State Department said that the US would no longer fund the “irredeemably flawed operation”, cutting nearly $300m (£230m) of planned support.
President Donald Trump is preparing to roll out a peace plan for Israel and the Palestinians.
The UN defended its education, health and other programmes in the area.
