ABERAVON began the season in style with a dominant performance over Ospreys regional rivals Swansea.

The Wizards almost struck first when a powerful scrum turned over possession, but a superb tackle by Josh Guy prevented Matthew Jenkins from scoring in the corner.

A period of pressure for the visitors almost resulted in a try, but both Sion Jones and Jake Randall were held up on the line. The Aberavon pack were penalised at the scrum and Foard Cooksley kicked a simple three pointer. Aberavon responded immediately when Jon Phillips sprinted into space on the wing to feed Matthew Jenkins for a well taken try.

The Wizards continued to attack and the pack camped on the try line, allowing David Pritchard an easy touch down.

Hooker Ieuan Davies found himself in an unusual place on the wing as the home side raised the tempo and Will Price spotted a gap in the middle to ease over for a third try.

The visitors got themselves back into the match with a welldeserved try from Nathan Trowbridge. SCORERS: ABERAVON – Tries: M Jenkins, D Pritchard, W Price. Cons: J Garland (3). Pens: J Garland. SWANSEA – Tries: N Trowbridge. Cons: O Howe. Pens: F Cooksley
