REIGNING champions The New Saints now lead the JD Welsh Premier League on goal difference after they won 3-0 at Caernarfon Town – and early pace-setters Connah’s Quay Nomads crashed 2-0 at Barry Town United.
TNS’ win at the Oval over the newly-promoted Cofis simply came down to the fact they took their chances whereas the home side did not. Darren Thomas, Jamie Breese and Danny Brookwell all had excellent opportunities to score for Caernarfon but they found visiting keeper Paul Harrison in fine form. They were punished as Dean Ebbe put the Saints in front two minutes before the break and goalscorer then turned provider on 59 minutes with Ebbe teeing up Jamie Mullan.
Greg Draper added a third for Scott Ruscoe’s side 10 minutes from time.
It was a third win from four games for TNS and they now move above Connah’s Quay who had their 100 per cent winning start to the campaign ended by Barry at Jenner Park.
Kayne McLaggon put Barry ahead from the penalty spot after six minutes with Mamodou Toure finishing off a counter attack to make it two.
