Sweet-toothed cas­tle raiders are hunted

PO­LICE are in­ves­ti­gat­ing af­ter thieves broke into a Welsh cas­tle and stole six bags of sweets.

The thieves are be­lieved to have got into the gift shop at Castell Coch be­tween it clos­ing on Fri­day night and open­ing on Sat­ur­day morn­ing.

A spokes­woman for South Wales Po­lice said a door on the shop had been bro­ken but noth­ing his­tor­i­cal was dam­aged.

She added that a blan­ket, item of jew­ellery and six bags of sweets had been taken.

Con­ser­va­tion work is cur­rently be­ing un­der­taken at the his­toric site on the out­skirts of Cardiff and there is scaf­fold­ing around some of the sides of the cas­tle.

Scenes of crimes of­fi­cers were at the cas­tle yes­ter­day morn­ing and po­lice are ap­peal­ing for any­one with in­for­ma­tion to come for­ward.

A spokes­woman for Cadw said that the cas­tle was closed for a time yes­ter­day so in­ves­ti­ga­tion work could be car­ried out, but it re-opened again in the af­ter­noon.
