AN EFAN JONES hat-trick helped RGC1404 to a bonus point victory over Bedwas in Colwyn Bay.
Three tries from Jones and one apiece from Tom Hughes and Dan Owen plus 13 points from the boot of Billy McBryde was enough for Mark Jones’ side to get over the line.
The visitors scored two tries of their own courtesy of Jordan Reed and Craig Hudd.
Bedwas got off to a flyer when Reed intercepted a loose pass from McBryde to run in unopposed for the opening try.
But the home side hit straight back with hooker Evan Yardley running straight through an unguarded ruck before offloading to Jones who touched down between the posts.
The Gogs began to get the upper hand physically with Bedwas struggling to cope with their superiority in the set pieces. And their second try came as a result of their scrum when the ball was spun wide to Hughes who ran straight through the Bedwas defence to score.
Hughes’ score saw the hosts turn around with a 14-7 at the inter- val. RGC took control in the early stages of the second half with McBryde extending their lead with a straightforward penalty from in front of the posts.
Jones claimed the Gogs’ third try with a stunning individual effort which saw him beat three men before touching down. Jones completed his hat-trick with a brilliant finish at the corner after some neat handling by his inside backs.
RGC were then reduced to 14 men when Llan Rowland was sent to the sin bin for killing the ball on the floor. Craig Hudd made Bedwas’ numerical advantage tell when he crashed over from short range.
But the Gogs had the last laugh when Dan Owen secured the bonus point as he raced in unopposed from 20 metres out. RGC1404: Tries: E Jones (3), T Hughes, D Owen; Cons: B McBryde (5) Pen: B McBryde BEDWAS: Tries: J Reed, C Hudd; Con: J Chilcott
