Accused of murdering missing man
A MAN has appeared in court accused of the murder of Mohamed Megherbi, who was last seen in Cardiff more than six weeks ago.
Kane Burns, 26, from Pennsylvania in Llanedeyrn, Cardiff, was yesterday morning brought into the dock at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court by two officers for the brief hearing.
Prosecutor Louise Clissold said: “This case relates to the missing person Mohamed Megherbi.”
The clerk read out the charge, which accuses Burns of murdering Mr Megherbi on October 10.
Burns, dressed in a grey tracksuit, confirmed his name, date of birth and address. His case was sent to the crown court.
He was represented by Andrew Shanahan during the hearing, which lasted for about five minutes.
Chair of the bench Wendy Ashton said: “This case must be sent to the crown court. It cannot be dealt with here.”
The defendant was remanded in custody until his next hearing at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court tomorrow.
