UN­BEATEN Peny­bont took an­other step to­wards achiev­ing their goal of pro­mo­tion to the Welsh Premier League af­ter beat­ing Cwm­bran Celtic 3-1 – an eighth win out of nine in Welsh League Di­vi­sion One.

Player boss Rhys Grif­fiths, Cur­tis Hut­son and Luke Bor­relli all found the net at Bryn­tirion with Chris Ham scor­ing for the vis­i­tors.

Bont’s week­end got even bet­ter with the news that Haver­ford­west County had crashed 3-2 at home against Cw­mam­man United – their se­cond straight re­verse.

Cw­mam­man twice came from be­hind to bag all three points with Ryan Thomas net­ting in each half while Ryan Hur­low got the other goal.

That re­sult also al­lowed Afan Lido to jump above the Blue­birds and into se­cond place af­ter they came from be­hind to edge out lowly Pon­typridd Town 2-1 at the Marston’s Sta­dium.

Liam McCreesh and Mark Jones found the net for Lido who are two points be­hind Peny­bont but have played three games more.

Haver­ford­west slip to third and are now four points off the sum­mit hav­ing also played a game more than Bont.

Di­vi­sion Two lead­ers Croesy­ceil­iog lost for the first time this cam­paign as they slipped to a 2-1 home de­feat by Caerau Ely.

Eli­jah Chilekwa got both goals for the vis­i­tors who are third in the ta­ble and now five points be­hind Croesy but do have three games in hand.

In Di­vi­sion Three, lead­ers Trethomas Blue­birds got back to win­ning ways with a 3-1 home vic­tory over AFC Porth.
