SIMON WINSTONE The brutal murderer was locked up for life for beating his partner to death and leaving her with injuries likened to a car crash.

The “horrific” injuries inflicted on 38-year-old Denise Rosser were described as “among the worst” investigat­ing officers had ever seen. ANDREW NICHOLAS The prisoner bit a chunk out of his cellmate’s ear as they watched the Six Nations.

He sank his teeth into Gareth Price’s ear after an argument began while the pair were drunk on “prison hooch”.

Nicholas told prison officers: “His ear is on the floor behind the door.”

The victim – and the missing piece of ear – were rushed to hospital but it was not possible to repair the damage.

Nicholas, of Caergynydd Road, Waunarlwyd­d, Swansea, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. He was given a 12-year extended sentence for public protection comprising eight years’ custody and four years on licence. ADAM GRIFFITHS The fantasist stole pass codes from travel agents allowing him to go on lavish holidays worth more than £40,000.

On one trip he travelled to Dubai for free, taking with him a stranger he had met on a bus.

A judge described the 30-year-old as a “Walter Mitty character”. He was a regular visitor at the Tui travel agents in Swansea’s Quadrant shopping centre, and became known as a “time waster”, boasting of his lifestyle but never booking any trips.

However, during one visit he got hold of some staff computer pass codes, and used them online to book almost £39,500 worth of trips.

Griffiths, of Jeffrey’s Court, Penlan, Swansea, admitted three counts of fraud and was sentenced to a total of two-and-a-half years in prison. MATTHEW BROGAN AND NATALIE DAVIES The Cardiff couple blew more than £1,000 on stolen bank cards.

They carried out a number frauds after using the bank cards, one of which was stolen from a van and the other during the burglary of a house.

Brogan was sentenced to a total of 26 months in prison while Davies was jailed for 16 months. STEPHEN GIBBS The paedophile who spent months engaging in “filthy and sordid” online conversati­ons with what he thought was a young girl was in fact talking to a 62-year-old man who was a socalled “paedophile hunter”.

Stephen Gibbs also had dozens of images of child abuse on his mobile phone – some featuring children as young as three or four.

Gibbs pleaded guilty to four counts of making indecent images, three counts of distributi­ng indecent images, possessing extreme pornograph­y, and attempting to incite a child to commit sexual acts.

He was jailed for a total of 24 months. He was also put on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for the same length of time to control his access to the internet. LEYTON EWINGS AND THOMAS HODGES The two men who dealt class A drugs were jailed after they were caught as part of Operation Avalanche.

Ewings, 39, of Barry, was jailed for three years and Hodges, 31, of Barry, for 16 months .

Ewings pleaded guilty to eight counts of supplying heroin and one count of supplying crack cocaine.

Hodges pleaded guilty to supplying crack cocaine. EILEEN MAHER AND LEWIS HAYES Addict Maher allowed a criminal gang from Liverpool to use her home as a safe house to store and distribute drugs.

Maher, 50, of Brookside in Garden City, has been locked up, along with a man who was used as a “cuckoo” in the property to deal class A drugs.

Both admitted charges of being concerned in the supply of dangerous drugs following their arrest at her home in November of last year. LUKE LAMOND He was jailed after admitting he had a knife in a pub in Rhyl.

Mold Crown Court was told that Luke Lamond had not brandished or produced the knife but, after he was ejected from a pub, he was seen to hide it in a bin in a nearby alleyway.

Lamond, 28, of Hawthorn Close, Rhyl, admitted possessing a blade in a public place and told how he carried it for his own protection after he himself had previously been stabbed. He was jailed for 32 weeks.
