Wales On Sunday

How they rated

-

ERWIN MULDER

A few routine saves in the opening half but had very little to do. Helpless with Marco Matias’ goal.

MIKE VAN DER HOORN

Very solid showing from the Dutchman who was largely untroubled at the heart of the defence, but was taken off at half-time due to illness.

JOE RODON

Solid in dealing with Atdhe Nuhiu and played a wonderful pass to send Wayne Routledge through on goal early on. Had a lucky escape after the restart after losing possession that led to Lucas Joao firing just wide. But he was punished soon after as Matias capitalised to give the Owls the lead.

KYLE NAUGHTON

Operating on the left of the back four due to the absence of Martin Olsson, Naughton dealt well with the threat of Ashley Baker and gave plenty of support in attack too. Replaced in the second half.

MATT GRIMES

Hugely impressive showing in the centre of the park. Grimes covered plenty of ground, won his share of tackles, and his distribution was slick too.

LEROY FER

Did plenty of his usual gritty work in the centre of midfield and ensured defenders behind him had a comfortable afternoon.

WAYNE ROUTLEDGE

Very lively early on and was twice played through on goal, but his efforts were comfortably dealt with by Cameron Dawson. Pace caused the Owls plenty of problems, and he got his rewards with Swansea’s second.

BARRIE MCKAY

A rather quiet showing from the Scot who continued in the No. 10 role after impressing at Brentford last weekend.

NATHAN DYER

Some impressive moments from the winger who fired just wide from distance in the first half and had a curling shot blocked in injury time in the opening period. But he didn’t seem to get a lucky break that he perhaps needed to fully stamp his authority on proceedings. Replaced by Jefferson Montero.

OLI MCBURNIE

Had to feed off scraps for long periods, but helped bring others into play when he was able to get on the ball. Wonderful through ball to pick out Routledge that should have seen Swansea go 1-0 up in the first half.
