Grinch driving Christmas...

Wales On Sunday - - NEWS -

DID you see him? This is bus driver Steve Bruton – better known as the Grinch.

Driving the X1 NAT Group service around Cardiff, Steve painted himself green and went all out on his costume, complete with furry green hands and trousers.

It took 61-year-old Steve, from Llanrumney in the capital, an hour to get ready on Friday before work.

But Steve, who’s been a bus driver for more than 10 years, says it’s worth it just to see the reaction on customers’ faces.

“I’ve been doing it now for a few years and I love it because it puts people in the Christmas spirit,” Steve said.

The idea of dressing up as The Grinch all started when Steve went on a stag do and covered himself in green paint. It’s grown since then.

“I bought some green fur from Cardiff Market and stuck it to trousers to make it look like I’ve got green furry legs, my T-shirt for a furry body, my arms and onto some gloves to make myself some giant Grinch hands. It cost me around £25 all together. Bargain!

“It takes me around half an hour just to do my face paint,” Steve said.

“How people manage to wear makeup everyday is beyond me.”

A number of other drivers on the NAT services also donned festive costumes this week – including a number of Santa drivers and elves.
