GEORGE North’s future father-in-law messaged him at half-time of Wales’ clash with France, playfully threatening not to give away his daughter at the couple’s wedding this summer.

Rio Olympics cycling double silver medallist and twice world track champion Becky James and North are due to tie the knot on June 8, ahead of the Rugby World Cup.

The pair have been long-term partners and got engaged in December 2017. They have a home in the Vale of Glamorgan.

North had a torrid time during the first half of Wales’ Six Nations opener with France in rain-lashed Paris, with coach Warren Gatland later emphasising the lapse in defence that had allowed opponent Yoann Huget to score a try.

But 26-year-old North made amends by pouncing for two opportunist touchdowns in the second half to help turn the match as Wales fought back from a 16-point deficit for a remarkable 24-19 triumph.

The dramatic turnaround in fortunes led to Becky’s father Dai James quipping on Twitter: “Not that long ago I was thinking I might have to cancel giving my daughter away on June 8th... my text at half-time must have made all the difference.”

Becky, who comes from Abergavenny and won silver and bronze medals for Wales at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, called time on her racing career in August 2017.

The hugely popular 27-year-old overcame a cancer scare in 2014 and career-threatening knee and shoulder injuries to win the hearts of the nation in Rio.
