RHIWBINA’S eightgame winning run in One East Central was halted after going down 14-13 at St Joseph’s.

Lee Marshall booted a penalty in the dying seconds to snatch victory for Joes, who had found themselves trailing 10-0 after tries in each half from Kris Richards.

Marshall then booted the first of three penalties before Lewis Pearce split the posts to restore the visitors’ 10-point advantage.

Another Marshall penalty which was followed up by an unconverted Augustine Clark try for Joes, but Marshall would have the final say from the tee to secure their third straight win.

For second-placed Rhiwbina, it was their first league defeat since September 15 and meant they slipped 12 points back on leaders Glamorgan Wanderers – who themselves put in a five-star performance to beat Mountain Ash 31-17.

Wing Phil Pariyo’s hat-trick led the way for the Wanderers with Rob Brookson and Rob Evans also dotting down.

Rhiwbina, though, do have four games in hand on the Wanderers.

The only other game to beat the weather in that division was at Hartridge, where Caerleon left with a 21-16 win. Curtis Ayling and Herbert Barnaby Bone were among the Caerleon scorers.
