NATIONAL LEAGUE RUGBY
RHIWBINA’S eightgame winning run in One East Central was halted after going down 14-13 at St Joseph’s.
Lee Marshall booted a penalty in the dying seconds to snatch victory for Joes, who had found themselves trailing 10-0 after tries in each half from Kris Richards.
Marshall then booted the first of three penalties before Lewis Pearce split the posts to restore the visitors’ 10-point advantage.
Another Marshall penalty which was followed up by an unconverted Augustine Clark try for Joes, but Marshall would have the final say from the tee to secure their third straight win.
For second-placed Rhiwbina, it was their first league defeat since September 15 and meant they slipped 12 points back on leaders Glamorgan Wanderers – who themselves put in a five-star performance to beat Mountain Ash 31-17.
Wing Phil Pariyo’s hat-trick led the way for the Wanderers with Rob Brookson and Rob Evans also dotting down.
Luke Fish added two conversions with Callum Bricknell booting another.
Rhiwbina, though, do have four games in hand on the Wanderers.
Rumney’s game at Treorchy was postponed and that allowed Dinas Powys, who beat Llantrisant 24-19, to move above them into third spot.
Jack Maynard was at the double in a bonus-point win for Dinas with and Carwyn Jones and Finlay Davies their other try scorers. Ben White booted two conversions.
Elsewhere, Bridgend Athletic won 26-15 at home against Porth Harlequins.
In One East, leaders Brecon’s scheduled game at Ynysybwl was called off and that allowed Penallta to move level on points with them thanks to a crushing 55-15 home win over Cwmbran.
The only other game to beat the weather in that division was at Hartridge, where Caerleon left with a 21-16 win. Curtis Ayling and Herbert Barnaby Bone were among the Caerleon scorers.
In One West, it’s now 15 defeats from 15 for basement boys Tenby United after they lost 25-17 at home against Aberystwyth.
Whitland were 27-12 home winners over Llangennech while the only game to go ahead in One West Central saw Bonymaen triumph 19-13 at Kenfig Hill to close the gap on Ystalyfera to nine points.
And in One North there were wins for Llangefni, 42-7, and Bala, 22-21, over Bro Ffestiniog and Pwllheli, respectively.
