CONNAH’S Quay Nomads are back on top of the JD Welsh Premier League after they came from behind to win 2-1 at Newtown, while Barry Town United crashed 2-0 at Caernarfon Town.

The Nomads fell behind after 35 minutes at Latham Park with the Robins taking the lead through debutant Rio Ahmadi.

That was the way it stayed until the 64th minute when Rob Hughes crossed for Danny Harrison to prod home. The winner arrived on 78 minutes and came from Mike Wilde, who headed home from Jake Phillips’ cross.

As a result Andy Morrison’s side go a point above Barry – who had led the way at the split – after they were defeated at the Oval.

Both goals came in the second half with Sion Bradley putting the Cofis ahead on 65 minutes before Nathan Craig wrapped up the points on 77.

Champions The New Saints, who had their scheduled game at Bala postponed, are a point further back but do have a game in hand on the top two.

In the bottom tier, Liam Thomas’ 58th-minute goal earned Carmarthen Town a 1-0 win over Cardiff Met. Met are now just a point above Aberystwyth, who drew 1-1 at bottom side Llandudno.

George Harry’s first-half opener for Llandudno was cancelled out by Geoff Kellaway for Aber.

Llandudno are 10 points from safety, while second-bottom Llanelli remain six from safety after they drew 0-0 at third-bottom Cefn Druids. AIRBUS UK Broughton had their lead in the Huws Gray Alliance cut to nine points after being held 1-1 at home by Porthmadog.

Steve Tommasson put the Wingmakers ahead 20 minutes in, heading home from a corner, but that was cancelled out by Shaun Cavanagh’s leveller for Porthmadog eight minutes later.

Meanwhile, Flint Town United jumped two places from fourth to second in the table after they saw off Llanrhaeadr 2-1.

Flint fell behind to a Iwan Matthews goal for Llanrhaeadr after 12 minutes. The equaliser for Flint came just after the break through debutant Dimitrios Christou’s bullet header and soon after Mark Cadwallader netted what proved to be the winner.

Bangor City, who began the weekend in second, were beaten 2-1 at home by Gresford Athletic.

Simon Smith and Joe Culshaw got the Gresford goals in either half, both from free-kicks with Sam Jones levelling before the break for the Citizens.

That result for Bangor – coupled with Flint’s win – sees them slip a place to third.

The basement battle between Holyhead Hotspur and Penrhyncoch went the way of the latter who triumphed 3-1 with two late goals. Tom Clarke gave Holyhead a third minute lead but Carl Lamb levelled before the break.

Stef Davies scored again for the visitors in the 89th minute before Lamb then grabbed his second.
