JONATHAN Hood’s dramatic 96th-minute leveller snatched a point for Barry Town United at Park Hall and denied champions The New Saints top spot in the JD Welsh Premier League.

With leaders Connah’s Quay Nomads in IRN-BRU Cup semifinal action last night, TNS looked to be heading towards victory; Kurtis Byrne put them ahead inside 50 seconds before Jamie Mullan made it 2-0 after 20 minutes.

Kayne McLaggon’s penalty pulled one back for Barry before the break.

TNS’ Tom Holland was sent off for a second booking on 73 minutes and they couldn’t hold out as, deep into added time, Barry got a free kick on the edge of the box – and Hood smashed the ball into the top corner to level at2-2.

That means Connah’s Quay, who host Bala on Tuesday night, are a point clear of TNS with thirdplaced Barry three points off the summit.

Elsewhere, Newtown beat Caernarfon Town 3-2 at Latham Park – a result that also took the Robins above the Cofis into fourth.

Captain Craig Williams put Newtown ahead but goals after the break from Sion Bradley and Darren Thomas saw the visitors edge in front.

Porya Ahmadi hit back before Alex Fletcher netted the winner seven minutes from time.

In the bottom tier, Cardiff Metropolitan University now have a five-point grip on a play-off place after a 3-0 win over bottom side Llandundo at Cyncoed.

Adam Roscrow was at the double for the Archers, with Harry Owen also netting.

Aberystwyth Town’s hopes of finishing in that seventh spot took a blow as they lost 3-1 at Cefn Druids.

Dean Rittenberg, Ryan Kershaw and Arkadiusz Piskorski grabbed the goals for the Druids with Marc Williams replying for Aber.

That win for the Druids means they are also now nine points clear of the bottom two.

Llanelli Town suffered another damaging defeat, this time 3-0 at home by Carmarthen Town – who were inspired by Liam Thomas’ hat-trick.
